STFU Hatemongers

Michael’s story

While I agree that this woman has every right to be upset over the employee using a hurtful word, I think she’s taking this too far. It’s like she has a personal vendetta against the employee. She wants to make SURE she’s fired.

I’m sorry, but when she takes it that far I have to sympathize with the employee more. I also have a low-level retail job and let me tell you that every single one of us needs this job. Losing her job could very easily mean making the employee’s impossibly difficult. YES, she needs to be reprimanded for being ignorant and using hurtful words, but to go as far as to make sure her livelihood is gone is just horrible.
The employee needs a lesson in sensitivity, not a reason to hate people with special needs. If she gets fired, I can guarantee you she’s not going re-evaluate how she views people with special needs, she’s going to blame “that bitch who blew everything out of proportion”.

Written warnings stay on your record with that store forever. If she ever wants to get hired back or get promoted, that written warning could be enough to prevent her from doing so. Isn’t that punishment enough?

Do we have to ruin her life? Colleen is not the reason there’s prejudice against special needs people. Ruining Colleen’s life is not going to help this prejudice at all.

When Colleen called that child a “retard” he heard it. That is something that will unfairly stay with him forever.

Why should his mother care about how it effects the employee?

I thought it was common sense, or basic knowledge, or decent manners to not ever use that word. If she didn’t already know not to call a child a name like that, sensitivity training would be wasted on her.

And if I ran a store or a business and one of my employees used that word and didn’t seem ashamed of it I would fire them. That would tarnish the reputation of my business.

No. I am with the mother. That woman deserves to be punished in the strictest sense. Colleen’s lively hood is not our problem. It is her problem for being a terrible person.
